Young people – the electoral group that is least represented in the German parliament
the electoral group consisting of voters between 18 and 21 forms the smallest one
this is only 3.2% of those being entitled to vote
also the voter turnout is here the lowest (62.4% in 2013, see source 6), only undercut by the age group of voters between 21 and 24 (60.3%)
For you to compare: in 1972 the percentage of voters under 21 was 78.8%, regarding to voters between 21 and 24 it was 76.9%
in comparison to that there is a steady voter turnout of those over 70
only 16% of adolescents show comittment (according to a survey on the political- societal participation of young people)
According to a survey executed by the university of Konstanz among German students on behalf of the Federal educational mi-nistry, there are 37% of German students interested in politics
Reasons for being less interested in political matters
This is what the Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation found out on this issue in its survey on the political-societal participation of young people :
since they do not know how to show comittment
young people are not asked
local representatives are unknown
parties are unable to solve problems
politicians aren`t down-to-earth
party work is a waste of time
We want to counter this development by means of the Wahlmission – student`s project asking all pupils older than 14 to actively take part in the Wahlmission!
Sign up at www.wahlmission.de, download the Wahlmission app. Watch the partlia-mentary election 2017 at a polling station of your choice and send the counting results afterwards to our organisation, simultaneously learning about the procedures at a polling place.
Take part in our project with plenty of pupils watching the elections at as many polling stations as possible. Any additional pupil increases the chance to win for your class.
Among all participants we will draw 3 pupils winning 1500, 1000 and 500 euros for their class fund. We will inform you about the draw taking place on 31 October 2017. The winners will be seperately informed.
By participating in Wahlmissionyou can locally experience all impressions gained by the project Juniorwahl (junior`s election).
